Eversholt Village

The village of Eversholt, over 1000 years old is situated in rural Mid-Bedfordshire, near Woburn Abbey, the home of the Duke and Duchess of Bedfordshire. The village was named after the wild boar which used to roam this part of the country and is taken from Anglo-Saxon times. The Boar's head is still used as the emblem of the village.

Eversholt is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 with Hugh de Beauchamp listed as the Lord of the Manor.

Queen Elizabeth took possession of Woburn Abbey after it was dissolved by Henry VIII as part of the "honor" of Ampthill. Little is known of any action within the village at the time of Cromwell, although it is known that Charles I was imprisoned in Woburn Abbey from July 22 - August 1 1647.
